Tampa Bay Times Home Team Fri. April 24, 2015 | Derek J. LaRiviere BROOKSVILLE — Cambridge Christian had scored a combined two runs in two games against Bayshore Christian this season. The bats came alive Friday in a rematch for the Class 2A, District 7 championship at Hernando Christian. The Lancers struck early, with four runs in the first inning, and ended up finishing off Bayshore 10-4. The Warriors (11-4) had won five of the past six meetings dating to last season. In the second inning, Zack Stein (3-for-3, walk) hit a two-run homer off Bayshore starter Evan Holland to make the score 6-1. Winners for the Florida High School Athletics Association’s 2011-2012 Academic Team Championship were announced last week. The FHSAA Academic Team Champion recognition program honors teamwork not only in competition, but in the classroom as well. Member school submit team cumulative GPAs and the FHSAA awards points to member school based on these GPAs (you can read a full scoring explanation on the FHSAA’s official website).   Out of 101 Class 2A schools in Florida, Cambridge Christian School ranked 10th overall for the 2011-2012 school year. This caps off an impressive year for Lancers Athletics, one that was full of championships on and off the field. The 2012 Mr. Baseball and Coach of the Year ballots were just released and Cambridge Christian School is well-represented this year in the Class 2A category.   Junior Zach Hessinger earned his nomination by going 6-0 during the season as a pitcher with a 1.85 ERA. He was equally effective on offense, batting .571 and tallying 23 RBIs and 36 runs scored.   Cambridge Christian School head coach Sam Marsonek made the ballot after leading the Lancers to a District Championship with an impressive 22-6 record. The Lancers had a great season under Coach Marsonek, making it all the way to the Regional Semifinals.   Media members from around the state will vote for the player and coach of the year in each classification. Once that group has been selected, writers will vote again on the overall Mr. Baseball and Coach of the Year. Good luck to Zach and Coach Marsonek and congrats again on a wonderful season!...
