Female Hot Shot winner Alea White, Cambridge Christian Tampa Bay Times Article by: Bob Putnam Cambridge Christian’s Alea White was pitcher perfect Monday against Citrus Park Christian. The junior threw her first perfect game of the season, striking out all nine batters she faced in a game that was called after three innings because of the mercy rule. The nine strikeouts puts her at 913 for her career, which started at the varsity level in the seventh grade. White was playing softball much earlier than that. She started when she 5 years old and began pitching when she was 10. Her role model was former Olympian Jennie Finch. Through the years White tinkered with a number of pitches. Her current repertoire — fastball, screwball, riseball, dropball, curve and changeup — is made more effective by her velocity (she usually throws more than 60 mph). From 403 feet away, all of this is enough to make opposing hitters uneasy. That kind of speed and movement can make catchers on White’s team uncomfortable, too. The Lancers are young, with five seventh graders and four freshmen on the roster. They already have used three catchers this season. “I knew I was going to have to be more of a leader on this team, and I love that role,” White said. “I know some of the girls have looked up to me and I want to help as much as I can.” White already has her college plans finalized after committing to Central Florida in the fall. Now, she is focused on getting her team deep in the playoffs and reaching 1,000 career strikeouts by the end of the season. Why she won: The ace has racked up strikeouts at a dizzying pace, recording the 900th of her career last week.    ...

Winners for the Florida High School Athletics Association’s 2011-2012 Academic Team Championship were announced last week. The FHSAA Academic Team Champion recognition program honors teamwork not only in competition, but in the classroom as well. Member school submit team cumulative GPAs and the FHSAA awards points to member school based on these GPAs (you can read a full scoring explanation on the FHSAA’s official website).   Out of 101 Class 2A schools in Florida, Cambridge Christian School ranked 10th overall for the 2011-2012 school year. This caps off an impressive year for Lancers Athletics, one that was full of championships on and off the field. The Lancers improved on their score by 8 points from the 2010-2011 school year and should be proud of their accomplishments.   Click here for a full listing of the state’s winners. Congrats on a wonderful year – Go Lancers!...

The Lady Lancers softball team and the Lancers baseball team were victorious yesterday! The Lady Lancers traveled to district tournament host Canterbury School of Florida to take on Bayshore Christian in the district semifinal game. The girls had a fantastic regular season and wanted to add to that with some postseason success. It was a scoreless game until the 5th inning when the Lancers’ bats came alive. Pitcher Alea White was fantastic, both on the mound and at the plate. Not only did she pitch a shutout, but she also provided some offense in the 6th inning with a solo homerun blast to dead center field. The Lancers tacked on one more run behind some clutch hitting in the 6th and that was more than enough for White to close out the Faith Warriors. The Lady Lancers play in the district championship game Thursday night at 6 pm against hosts Canterbury. Check out some photos below! Generated by Facebook Photo Fetcher The Lancers baseball team was also on the road yesterday, traveling to Clearwater to play in the Bay Conference Championship game against Calvary Christian. This was a unique game because it was played at BrightHouse Field, a beautiful facility that is home to the Philadelphia Phillies for spring training. This was a defensive battle throughout the night. Nick Eicholtz and Matt Mullins combined to pitch a shutout. The winning run was scored by a perfectly-executed sacrifice bunt in the 9th inning, giving the Lancers the win and the Bay Conference Championship. Here are some photos of Upper School principal Bev Coney throwing out the first pitch at the game!     Congrats to the Lancers – your 2012 Bay Conference Champions! Good luck Thursday Lady...
