Suggested Scripture Reading: John 1:1-18

Devotional Thoughts: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

What is John referring to when he says, “the Word?” It was a term used by theologians in many different ways, ranging from command, reason, and ministry to name a few. If you read the above Scriptures, especially in John 1:14, John is clearly referring to Jesus as “the Word.” Not only was Jesus a human being who John knew and loved, but also the perfect example of God’s holiness. John shows us that Jesus is unique as God’s special Son, yet he is fully God. Since he is fully God, Jesus is able to reveal God to us clearly and accurately.

Discussion Questions:
1. Why do you think John refers to him as, “the Word?”
2. How much trust do you put into the words that Jesus spoke?
3. How often are you reading the words of the Bible?
