Devotional Thoughts: What is true? How do you know?
The word “true” can mean many things, for example: Real, Authentic, Accurate, Perfect, Authentic, Genuine, Honest, Pure, and Sincere. In the dictionary it states, “being in accordance with the actual state or condition; conforming to reality or fact; not false.”
To distinguish what is true, we sometimes need to gather facts in order to come to a realization as to whether something is real or false. Think of a detective looking for clues at a crime scene in order to determine what really happened or what the “true” nature of the crime is. The act of searching for clues is done because the detective wasn’t there at the time to see it clearly unfold before his eyes.
As a detective gathers clues, such as pictures, statements from eyewitnesses, and samples of evidence, then he can determine, to the best of his knowledge, how things took place. This information can be relayed to other people to understand, and then those facts are used in a court of law or for some other means.
As you read I John 5:20, it is describing to you that Jesus has come and given us an understanding of all the evidence in the Bible for us to read. Jesus tells us that by believing in His Word through faith alone, that we may know that we have eternal life. Keep in mind, just like a detective, we were not born at that time Jesus was here and died and rose again. However, we have the Bible written, as our evidence, with all His truths laid out for us to know and to share. Another verse for assurance is 1 John 5:13 “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

2. Is something stopping you from finding out about our true God?
3. Are you willing to begin to find out about the evidences of God?
