Volleyball: Varsity volleyball enjoyed a bounce back season with an 8-15 record. Led by a solid senior core, the team worked hard and continued to improve throughout the season. Coach Jules Colina was very encouraged by the team’s improvement and success, and is looking forward to next season, and an offseason of hard work. Our JV team was led by new Coach Amy Strawser and they used this season to develop and improved their skills each game. The MS volleyball teams competed well all season long and represented CCS admirably thanks to Coach Layman and Coach Rideout.
Football: Varsity football has worked through a season of rebuilding and growth. Although their record was 4-8, the team worked very hard and improved throughout the season and made it through to the region semi-final. Several players had outstanding seasons, including junior QB Mikal Willeke with 2124 passing yards and 23 TD’s, senior WR Justin Froelich, with 917 receiving yards and 12 TD’s, and sophomore RB Ronald White with 599 rushing yards and 6 TD’s. We are looking forward to continued growth and a solid season next year with all our returning and new players. Our MS football team, under the leadership of Coach Rick Shears, had one of their most successful seasons ever with a 6-1 record against a very tough schedule. We are very proud of our MS players for their hard work and dedication they showed this season!
Cross Country: Cross country enjoyed one of their best seasons in many years with a strong number of both boys’ and girls’ runners that joined the team. The runners worked hard every practice and improved their times throughout the season, which included twelve runners that reached a PR (personal record) in the district meet. Adam Fernandez also broke the twenty-minute mark and almost broke the nineteen-minute mark coming in 20th place, just short of moving on to regionals. We are very pleased with the progress of our runners, their servant leadership both at meets and in the community and look forward to another great season next year.
Golf: Boys golf was a great mix of youth and experience this season, and an opportunity for a lot of growth. Coach Piercefield did a wonderful job of teaching and encouraging our golfer to continue to improve throughout the season, and he is looking forward to all our golfers returning next year. Although they did not have enough players to be scored as a team, our girls did a wonderful job representing CCS on the course. Seniors Latanna Stone and Sarah Johnson, and junior Theresa Stanger competed in several events as individuals with great results. Stanger finished as the individual district runner up, while Latanna Stone won the individual district and region championships and qualified for the state tournament where she finished as the state runner up. Latanna Stone has signed to play golf at Louisiana State University in the fall of 2019!
Bowling: Boys bowling enjoyed another excellent season, going 17-1 during the season, and winning their 2nd consecutive district championship. The boys team received strong seasons from upperclassmen Marcus McCray, Ben Sanney, Nick Goodger, Ben Gibbs, and Micah Rideout. The younger bowlers, Aaron Bustamante, James Elliott, and Luke Wiezycki also chipped in and contributed to the team’s success. Girls bowling also enjoyed another excellent season, going 16-0 during the season (their third straight undefeated season), and winning their 3rd consecutive district championship. Seniors Emma Layman, Melissa Medina, and Hannah Brody led the team with solid scoring, and juniors Rebekah Bustamante, Lauren Hahn, and Alyssa Hickinbotham also contributed to the strong season. Both teams competed well in the state tournament with the boys finishing in a tie for 19th, and the girls at 16th.
