Suggested Scripture Reading: John 14.6: I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father except through me.”
Devotional Thoughts:Have you ever used a GPS? A GPS is a computerized system that helps guide us from one destination to the next. Maybe you are on a street you don’t recognize and you’re looking for a pizza shop and you can’t quite think of how to get there. At this point, you can type into your GPS your current location and where you would like to go. Your GPS, if it works properly, should not only show you a map with arrows, but when you make a wrong turn it will also re-route you. Jesus is our GPS in life from sin to the Father. Jesus says in John 14.6 “I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father except through me.” If you read the newspaper you will always find a sad story about someone who made a bad decision. The world has appeared to have favored sin instead of God, but there is hope. God sent Jesus Christ to pay the penalty for all sin so that through Him we could overcome sin. Jesus says a few chapters later in John 16.33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Our GPS leads us to where we need to go. It re-routes us when the way we were going was not right. It also provides for us clarity/light when we would’ve been otherwise confused. We need Jesus to lead the way to a right relationship with God. We need Jesus to find the truth in the midst of a world that is full of lies. We also need Jesus to be the light in the darkness we see in this world. He is that for all people who choose Him.
Discussion Questions:
1. Did you know that everyone needs Jesus? How often do you share this truth?
2. If no man comes to the Father but through Jesus Christ, could people who believe in something other than Jesus be saved from their sins too?
3. What challenges do you come across when sharing your belief in Jesus as the only way to God?
