Congratulations to junior Joshua Morin for being 1 of only 10 students in the entire Tampa Bay Region to qualify for the National Chemistry Olympiad Exam! This the third year in a row we have a student from CCS qualify.
The U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO) program is a multi-tiered chemistry competition for high school students sponsored by the American Chemical Society. The purpose of the competition is to stimulate young people to achieve excellence in chemistry.
There are three tiers to the competition. The first tier was the local, Tampa Bay Competition. Top students in the Tampa Bay area virtually took the local exam last week– this area spans both private and public schools from Hillsborough, Pinellas and Sarasota counties. Josh Morin was one of only ten students in the entire Tampa Bay Region to qualify to take the national exam. Josh will now compete in the National Competition administered to only 1,000 students nation-wide. The national exam will take place virtually this year on April 26, 2020 and May 3, 2020, administered through the University of Tampa. The top 20 students from the national exam will be invited to attend a study camp in Colorado to prepare for the International Competition. Then the top four students from study camp represent the United States in the annual International Chemistry Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey in July 2020!
Congratulations to Josh and his family on this awesome achievement. Go Lancers!
