Congratulations, Blake McCoy for being 1 of only 10 students in the entire Tampa Bay Region to qualify for the National Chemistry Olympiad Exam.
The U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO) program is a multi-tiered chemistry competition for high school students sponsored by the American Chemical Society. The purpose of the competition is to stimulate young people to achieve excellence in chemistry.
There are three tiers to the competition. The first tier is the local, Tampa Bay Competition. Last year about 200 of the top students in the Tampa Bay area took the local exam – this area spans both private and public schools from Hillsborough to Pinellas counties, spanning to Sarasota and Manatee counties. Blake McCoy was one of only ten students in the entire Tampa Bay Region to qualify to take the national exam. Blake will now compete in the National Competition administered to 1,000 students nation-wide. The national exam will take place on April 29, 2019 at the University of Tampa. The top 20 students from the national exam will be invited to attend a study camp in Colorado to prepare for the International Competition. Then the top four students from study camp represent the United States in the annual International Chemistry Olympiad in Paris, France in July 2019.
