SEMINOLE – Latanna Stone did not want to let her team down, so she decided to play in Thursday’s Mustang Invitational at Seminole Lake Country Club despite a sore left wrist.

Pretty good decision.

Stone, a sophomore, shot a 5 under 66 to win the individual championship by two shots over teammate Ashley Zagers and defending tournament champion Alyssa Lamoureux of Seminole. And her team, Cambridge Christian, won the overall title with a team score of 321. St. Petersburg was second with a 334.

Stone had six birdies and a bogie in her first 18 hole high school tournament of the season. She was tied with playing partner Lamoureux with two holes to play. She birdied the par 5 14th hole (her 17th) to take a one shot lead and parred the par 4, 15th while Lamoureux bogied.

“I wasn’t really paying attention to my score,” Stone said. “I just know the balls were dropping today. It’s a good start for me.”

Zagers officially finished second after a scorecard playoff. Her 3 under 68 was her best ever score as a high school player. Zagers, a senior, is committed to Florida Southern.

Madison Hardeman of Osceola finished fourth with a 1 under 70. Boca Ciega’s Sadie Chlapowski rounded out the top five with a 2 over 73.

Tampa Prep finished third of nine teams with a 365.
